Xylitol is a pearl in skincare
For individuals with dry skin and atopic dermatitis, Xylitol has much to offer. Previous studies indicate that the dryness and compromised skin barrier in atopic individuals are attributed to a deficiency in the so-called genetic filaggrin protein. Recent research has found that atopic individuals may also suffer from microbial colonization on the skin surface. This excessive microbial presence, accumulating in the normal skin flora, forms a biofilm on the skin surface, clogging sweat glands and causing inflammation and irritation.
